 | Too often I see photos of past commissioners wearing unstyled, messy wigs. I'm hoping that this little PSA will help them get over their fear of the brush! (excerpt pulled from my "care and feeding" guide for Cats costumes): Your wig needs to be styled to maintain a good look. I encourage you to find a slicker brush or file card for your wig grooming. The front edge needs to be gently brushed into place, then secured with hairspray (I like Aqua Net). Start at the tip of the hair and work toward the root to avoid hair loss. If you have formed ears (tied, knotted, or tipped), you will not need to style them as I have permanently glued the hair in place. Fan ears will require similar styling as the front edge. Brush to shape; finish with hair spray. The back of the wig should be gently brushed to remove tangles, but does not require hairspray. I like to brush out my wig before I wear it, and after I'm done before storing it. I like to store my wigs on a wig head, with something draped on top to avoid dust. If your wig becomes dusty, canned air can help in removing the dust. You may wish to glue your wig's front down with spirit gum or toupee tape. I personally do not find it necessary, but if you choose to do so, excess adhesive can be removed from your wig with a soft toothbrush and alcohol.
